Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Status is an internationally recognized status that facilitates customs procedures and provides privileges to foreign trade companies in both declarations and their control processes.

With this certificate, companies engaged in foreign trade benefit from various privileges, including the green lane application for both imports and exports, on-site customs clearance, exemption from attaching documents to declarations, reduced guarantees, authorized exporter status, and priority passage rights at border crossings. Additionally, for logistics companies, this certificate allows for the "authorized consignee" application, where goods are transported directly from abroad to an authorized consignee facility, and customs procedures (imports) are completed at the consignee's facility.

The Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Status is regulated under the Customs Procedures Facilitation Regulation within customs legislation. To qualify for this status, companies must meet several critical requirements. Firstly, to apply for an AEO certificate, a company must have submitted at least 100 customs declarations within the previous calendar year or within the twelve months preceding the application date. These declarations may include imports, exports, bonded warehouse operations, or transit declarations. Another essential requirement is that the company must have been operating for at least three years to be eligible to apply for the AEO certificate. Otherwise, the application cannot be submitted.

Contrary to common belief, there is no foreign trade performance requirement for manufacturers to obtain an AEO certificate. This means that a company with a capacity report or an industrial registry certificate is not required to meet a specific foreign trade volume in a given year. However, non-manufacturing companies are subject to a foreign trade performance requirement. Companies engaged in trading activities must meet at least one of the following criteria: a minimum of $5 million in actual exports, $20 million in imports, or a combined total of $20 million in imports and exports. Companies that do not meet these thresholds cannot apply for the AEO certificate.

Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Status is not only a national customs facilitation certificate but also a globally recognized document, valid in numerous countries through mutual recognition agreements.

In Turkey, there are over 750 companies holding an AEO certificate. ConsultSight Consulting is the market leader in obtaining this certification in Turkey.
